Správa železnic and the Ministry of Transport are to decide around the turn of 2026 and 2027 when the modernisation of the railway line between Brno and Nezamyslice, in the Prostějov area, will begin. The construction is to be carried out as a public-private partnership (PPP). According to a spokeswoman for Správa železnic quoted by the Czech News Agency, tender documentation for selecting a concessionaire is currently being prepared.[1][2]
Permitting and preparation
The spokeswoman said that an application for permission for the project on the sections from Blažovice to Nezamyslice has been filed with the Transport and Energy Building Authority (Dopravní a energetický stavební úřad), and property settlement is under way. A preliminary archaeological survey has been completed. Design documentation for the construction permit is being prepared for the section from Brno to Blažovice. For selecting the concessionaire, Správa železnic has an advisory team chosen in a tender in autumn 2025.[1][2]
Aim and context
The modernisation, which will in practice be a new build, is meant to provide a fast connection between Brno and Ostrava and to allow passenger trains between Brno and Vyškov. According to the sources, the D1 motorway currently cannot cope with the demand for transport. The existing single-track line suffers frequent closures, and passengers have to change to buses.[1][2]
The adjoining section between Nezamyslice and Přerov, almost 30 kilometres long, has been under modernisation by Správa železnic since 2025. A double-track line with a speed of up to 200 kilometres per hour is to replace the single-track line from the 19th century there and is to be finished in 2028. The section towards Brno is to have the same parameters according to a feasibility study from 2015. Správa železnic had earlier given completion in 2032 or 2033; the dates are now uncertain.[1][2]
