Daniel Křetínský is a Czech businessman. EP Group, which Hospodářské noviny links with Křetínský, gained control of the British postal company Royal Mail in 2025.[2]

Royal Mail

According to the BBC, Royal Mail announced that by the end of 2027 it will cut around 2,500 jobs, roughly two per cent of its workforce. The measure is to affect office and support roles, not delivery staff and drivers. The company employs approximately 131 thousand people and wants to reduce the number mainly through voluntary departures.[1][2]

Metro in Russia

The majority owners of the German chain Metro, through the investment company EP Global Commerce, are Křetínský and Patrik Tkáč. In the Czech Republic Metro operates Makro wholesale stores.[4] Russian President Vladimir Putin, by a decree of 28 September 2026, transferred Metro's Russian assets under the temporary administration of the company UK Torg Rus. According to Reuters, the decree does not state a reason.[4] According to Forum 24, Metro AG confirmed that it formally remains the owner but has lost operational control over its Russian business.[3] The Russian division of Metro said it is operating as usual.[4]
