From Saturday 3 October 2026, the ramp from the D2 motorway coming from Bratislava to the D1 towards Ostrava has been closed at the Brno-jih grade-separated interchange, which connects the D1 and D2 motorways and is under reconstruction. The closure is to last until 28 November 2026. On the same day, traffic is being switched to the newly built ramp from the D1 from Prague to the D2 towards Bratislava.[1][2]

Detour routes

According to the Road and Motorway Directorate, passenger vehicles from Modřice are to use Vídeňská Street and join the D1 at the Brno-centrum exit at kilometre 194. From the D2 the detour runs along Hněvkovského, Černovická and Ostravská streets, and vehicles reach the D1 at the Brno-východ exit at kilometre 203.[1][2] Passage along Svatopetrská Street from the junction with Černovická is restricted for vehicles over twelve tonnes.[1]

Lorries are to leave the D2 already at the Břeclav exit and continue along road I/55 through Veselí nad Moravou to the D55 motorway and on towards Ostrava.[1][2]

Preparation of the change

In the nights before the change, traffic on the D1 was temporarily narrowed to one lane. Two temporary roundabouts and two signal-controlled junctions were built on road II/152 for the detour routes.[1][2] Lucie Trubelíková, spokeswoman of the Road and Motorway Directorate, said that by the end of November the directorate wants to move traffic onto the widened carriageway of the D1 and continue with the second half.[1]

Reconstruction of the interchange

The reconstruction of the interchange began in October 2025 and completion is planned for November 2027. The cost is roughly 3.2 billion crowns excluding tax. Up to 80 thousand vehicles pass through the interchange every day. The cloverleaf layout is being changed to a two-leaf layout and the D1 is being widened to six lanes.[1][2]
