Bus line 131 in Prague last ran on 30 October 2026. From 31 October, trolleybuses of line 51 have fully taken over the connection between the stops Hradčanská, U Matěje and Bořislavka.[1]
History of the line
The Prague Public Transit Company began operating line 131 in June 1963 on the route Revoluční (Dlouhá třída), Sibiřské náměstí, Zelená and U Matěje. From the end of February 1993 it ran on more or less its current route. According to the company's transport director Jan Barchánek, because of the very hilly terrain with steep climbs it belonged to the first group of lines suitable for electrification.[1]
Farewell
On the day of the last service, between 14:00 and 18:00, the transit company, in cooperation with the Prague 6 borough, ran three historic buses at 20-minute intervals: Škoda 706 RTO, Karosa B951E and Irisbus Citybus. The rides were free until the capacity of the vehicle was reached.[1] Ondřej Matěj Hrubeš (ODS), the Prague 6 councillor for transport, said that the line had been a symbol of Hanspaulka and Bubeneč for generations of residents.[1]
Trolleybuses
According to iDNES.cz, trolleybuses have handled all weekend service since 17 October, and buses remained only on working days. From 2 November, trolleybuses of lines 51 and 53 are to definitively replace bus lines 131 and 176, which ran in parallel. At peak times line 51 is to run at intervals of four to six minutes and line 53 at intervals of six to eight minutes, mostly with low-floor air-conditioned vehicles of the Bozankaya SNG 12T type.[2] According to the transit company, the switch to zero-emission battery trolleybuses is part of the electrification of bus lines on the left bank of the Vltava.[2]
