Trhové Sviny is a town in the České Budějovice area.[2]

Local government

In the municipal elections in 2026, the movement Naše Česko, led by the incumbent mayor David Štojdl, won over 68 percent of the vote and 18 of the 23 council seats. ANO won two seats, and KDU-ČSL, Nestraníci and Volba pro město one each.[1] In the previous term, Štojdl led a list put together under the ODS; this time he ran under the banner of Naše Česko, whose list consists mostly of non-party candidates.[1] According to Štojdl, there is no need to form a new coalition, but he wants to talk with ANO, Nestraníci and KDU-ČSL.[1]

History

The economic crisis after 1929 also made itself felt in Trhové Sviny. On 24 May 1933, about 200 unemployed people gathered in front of the town hall and demanded that the then mayor, Ladislav Stráský, provide work. The crowd was about to enter the building, and gendarmes intervened against it.[2] Some of the unemployed then found work in emergency cleaning of the Velký rybník pond, in building a swimming area and in the construction of a district road near Mohuřice.[2]
