Tomáš Zdechovský is a Czech politician for KDU-ČSL and a member of the European Parliament.[2] Slovak Deputy Speaker of Parliament Tibor Gašpar of the Smer party called him a “useful idiot” and a “jihadist” because of this resolution, which Zdechovský rejected in May 2026. [3] In spring 2026 he prepared a European Parliament resolution drawing attention to the state of the rule of law and the possible misuse of European funds in Slovakia. [3]

In an interview for the Info.cz podcast of 26 September 2026 he spoke about negotiations in the European Parliament over the Green Deal and about conditions in the ANO movement. According to the editors, the interview was satirical and full of exaggeration.[1] On 6 October 2026 he posted on social media a collage comparing Slovak MEP Milan Mazurek of the Republika movement to Adolf Hitler, and in the post wrote about similarities in speeches, gestures and rhetoric. [3] In 2019 the Slovak Supreme Court convicted Mazurek with final effect of defaming a nation, race and belief over statements about Roma, and he became the first Slovak member of parliament to lose his mandate because of a verdict. [3] Zdechovský had already shared a video compiled from speeches by Mazurek and Hitler on 5 October 2026. [3]

According to the description of another Info.cz programme from October 2026, he called a separate candidacy of KDU-ČSL and TOP 09 doomed to failure in advance and would prefer to see Martin Kupka rather than Petr Fiala at the head of the next formation. [4] The proceedings continue for the remaining part of the lawsuit, and the discontinuation does not address whether Zdechovský's statements were true. [2] An activist who is suing him before the district court in Hradec Králové over interference with personality rights withdrew, in a filing of 19 August 2026, his demand for payment of two million korunas and for the removal of Zdechovský's posts about him, and the court therefore discontinued that part of the proceedings. [2] In an Info.cz programme of 24 September 2026 he spoke about Andrej Babiš's pre-election promises of cheaper mortgages, energy and fuel, and in that context spoke of “Babiš's expensiveness”. [5]
