The Office of the Senate will pay a total of 8.25 million crowns in severance pay to eleven former senators.

The Office of the Senate of the Czech Republic will pay a total of 8.25 million crowns in severance pay to eleven former senators who did not defend or did not succeed in defending their seats in 2026. The figure was given on 19 October 2026 to the Czech News Agency by Andrea Kubová of the Senate press department.[1]
By law, severance pay amounts to five times the last monthly salary if the senator was a member of the upper chamber for at least four years. The basic monthly salary of a legislator is 138,400 crowns. The highest amount, roughly one eighth of the total, is to go to the former Vice-President of the Senate Jitka Seitlová (KDU-ČSL), whose salary was 219,300 crowns, so that her severance pay will reach about 1.1 million crowns. The sum of 809,000 crowns is to go to Jiří Vosecký (formerly SLK) and Miroslava Němcová (ODS). The remaining eight people will receive 692,000 crowns each.[1]
The full-fledged service of these members of the Senate ended on 10 October 2026. The money will be paid on the January 2027 pay date, that is, three months after the end of the mandate. If they apply for the severance pay earlier, they will receive an advance of half the amount. The entitlement lapses if within three months they begin to hold another office under the act on the salaries of constitutional officials.[1][2]
Seitlová was, until the end of the previous term, the longest-serving senator: she served in the Senate from 1996 to 2007 and again from 2014. The record was taken over from her by Jiří Oberfalzer and Tomáš Jirsa (both ODS), who have been senators continuously since November 2004. Their mandate ends in 2028, and by completing it they will equal the record of Milan Štěch, who was a senator from 1996 to 2020.[1]
