On 21 October 2026 the Senate dealt with an amendment cancelling the planned rises in motorway vignette prices.

On 21 October 2026 the Senate had on its agenda a government amendment that abolishes the regular indexation of motorway vignette prices. The Senate Economic Committee proposed adding to it a larger share for the regions in the fuel excise duty.
Under the committee's proposal, the regions would receive, in addition to their existing tax share, 4.15 percent of the national gross revenue from the fuel excise duty. The Ministry of Finance would distribute the share according to the length of second- and third-class roads in each region. The proposal is linked to the plan of the government of ANO, SPD and the Motorists to abolish the state contribution to the regions for road repairs.
Senator Ondřej Lochman (STAN) announced that if the change does not pass in the Senate, Starostové will submit it separately. They intend to proceed in the same way with a proposal to lower the statutory maximum weight of loaded lorries by eight tonnes to 40 tonnes. According to Lochman, the Senate could also reject the amendment. The opposition calls the price freeze a populist measure.
After the indexation is abolished, the basic annual vignette is to cost 2,570 crowns in the following years as well, the monthly one 480 crowns, the ten-day one 300 crowns and the one-day one 230 crowns. Discounts for vehicles with alternative drives are to be kept. According to the explanatory memorandum, the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (Státní fond dopravní infrastruktury) will lose about 488 million crowns next year and 739 million crowns the year after. Transport Minister Ivan Bednárik (for SPD) wants to cover the shortfall with higher toll revenue.
The deputies also added to the amendment a provision under which the one-day vignette is to be valid for 24 hours from purchase rather than until midnight.
