A week after the 2026 municipal elections, according to the Czech News Agency (ČTK), it is clear in most large towns of the Karlovy Vary Region who will lead the town halls. In Cheb the composition of the leadership will be decided only after the second round of the Senate elections. If statutory deadlines are met, the constituent meetings of the councils are to take place by mid-November at the latest. Average turnout in the region was 40.39 percent, compared with 40.86 percent four years earlier.[1][2]

Karlovy Vary

Karlovy Vary will continue to be led by a coalition of ANO, the Karlovaráci and ODS, whose representatives signed a memorandum of cooperation; they are preparing the coalition agreement and programme statement for the following week. Andrea Pfeffer Ferklová (ANO) is to be mayor for the third time. The coalition will hold 18 of 35 seats. ANO won the election with ten seats, the Vary+ coalition won nine, the Karlovaráci and STAN six each, and SPD and ODS two each.[1][2]

Cheb

The municipal elections in Cheb were won by Volba pro město s podporou starostů with nine seats out of 29. ANO and Koalice pro Cheb won six each, Volba pro kraj and Naše Česko three each, and ODS and SPD one each. Senator Miroslav Plevný (STAN), leader of the winning list, told ČTK that if he defends his Senate seat and the post of chair of the Economic Committee, someone else from the expected coalition with Koalice pro Cheb could become mayor; he did not rule out the participation of other parties.[1][2]

Sokolov

In Sokolov on Monday 12 October 2026, Sokolov na plný úvazek, Hnutí pro město Sokolov and Společně pro Sokolov and VOK agreed on a coalition, together holding 17 votes out of 27. The town council is to have nine members, and the mayor will probably be Jan Picka (VOK). The winning ANO, which had governed with Společně pro Sokolov until now, will go into opposition.[1][2]
