Poruba is a part of Ostrava. According to news reports, it contains the Globus hypermarket and the area of the Duha shopping centre.[1][2]

Dopravní podnik Ostrava selected an association of the companies AFRY CZ, AFRY Slovakia and Dopravní projektování to prepare the design documentation for a tram line in Poruba. The documentation is to cost CZK 97.25 million excluding VAT.[1][2] The line is to be about 3.3 kilometres long and run from the junction of the streets 17. listopadu and Opavská around Duha and along Průběžná street to Globus. It is to have six stops, among them VŠB-TUO, Pustkovec and Duha.[1] According to current plans, construction could start in 2028.[1][2]

According to the company's director Daniel Morys, the line is to connect further parts of Poruba with the backbone public transport network; he says part of the district has been waiting decades for a direct tram connection.[2] Some residents reject the plan; people submitted more than 3,000 comments, and a petition against the line, signed by about 5,000 people, was started.[1][2]
