VSB – Technical University of Ostrava has its campus in the Poruba district of Ostrava. The rector is Igor Ivan [1].

Research and development centre with a proving ground

On 12 October 2026 the university opened a new research and development centre; its construction, including equipment, cost CZK 126 million. The school obtained the money for the project from the European Just Transition Operational Programme [1].

The six-storey building will provide facilities for roughly 50 researchers. It will focus on automated vehicle control, electromobility, artificial intelligence, machine learning and the development of robotic systems [2]. The centre includes a 380-metre-long proving ground with various turning radii for testing autonomous vehicles and other mobile systems, including robots. According to the university, it is the first such facility at Czech universities [1][2].

A high-speed 5G network is also available. Until now, researchers had to transport vehicles for testing outside the university campus [1][2].
