Ostrava-Poruba is a city district of the statutory city of Ostrava in the Moravian-Silesian Region[1]. For the elections to municipal councils and to the Senate of the Czech Republic held on 9 and 10 October 2026, the district had 49 polling districts[2]. Voters in Poruba elected the council of the city district, the council of the city of Ostrava and a senator[2]. The Senate election concerned electoral district number 72, to which Poruba belongs[2].
Polling stations
The polling stations were open on Friday 9 October from 14:00 to 22:00 and on Saturday 10 October from 8:00 to 14:00[2].
Faulty ballot papers
Before the vote, the district warned that some voters had received faulty ballot papers in their letterboxes and urged them to check the mailing[1]. The district spokesperson Martin Otipka said that, given the number of ballot papers distributed, it was not possible to check each one individually before it was sent out[1]. According to the findings of the daily newspaper, the town hall recorded complaints from two polling districts; these were a handful of cases, and the faulty ballot papers had been delivered together with correct ones[2].
A voter who found at home that he or she had an incorrect ballot paper could pick up the correct one at the polling station on election day or request it in advance at the office of the city district[1]. The district also increased the number of replacement ballot papers prepared in polling stations, and members of the election commissions were also to alert voters to the possible problem[1][2].
Similar problems in the region
The municipality of Stará Ves nad Ondřejnicí in the Ostrava area also dealt with a similar mix-up of ballot papers; there the candidates from this municipality were listed on one side of the ballot paper and the candidates from Kobeřice in the Opava area on the other[1][2]. The municipality described the error as a printing error caused by the printing contractor of the Ministry of the Interior and, through the Ostrava city hall, had 1,500 ballot papers reprinted[1][2]. The municipality of Václavovice in the Ostrava area warned against inaccurate instructions for filling in ballot papers that had appeared on social media[1][2].
