On Wednesday 7 October 2026, a fire broke out in a flat on the sixth floor of a prefabricated apartment block in Ostrava-Poruba. The fire brigade operations centre registered the report at 9:37, and professional units from the Ostrava-Poruba, Ostrava-Zábřeh and Ostrava-Fifejdy stations were sent to the scene.[1][2]

The fire affected the kitchen of the flat, and firefighters extinguished it with one water jet. They rescued the resident of the flat and handed him over to paramedics. According to Kamila Langerová, spokeswoman for the fire brigade in the Moravian-Silesian Region, the fire was contained within 15 minutes, and extinguishing took another 15 minutes. Firefighters ventilated the premises with overpressure ventilation. There was no need to evacuate residents of neighbouring flats.[1][2][3]

Injured man and damage

The injured person was a 39-year-old man, whom paramedics treated and took in critical condition to the burn centre of University Hospital Ostrava.[2][3] The fire investigator preliminarily estimated the damage at 250,000 crowns.
