On Wednesday, 28 October 2026, a new lookout tower next to the Obří sud hotel on the hill of Javorník near Liberec was officially opened, expanding the offer of the Adventure Park Liberec area. After more than seventy years, a panoramic view from Javorník is open again. The opening was combined with the autumn event Putování za vínem (Journey for Wine). During the trial operation over the previous month, thousands of people visited the tower.[1]

The tower was created by rebuilding a telecommunications mast next to the Obří sud. A staircase, resting platforms and a viewing gallery were added to its steel structure, and the transmitter continues to serve its original function. The total height is 49.43 metres, the viewing platform is at a height of 34.6 metres and is reached by 186 steps. The altitude is 684 metres. According to Liberecká Drbna, it is the highest viewing gallery above ground level in the Liberec Region.[1] The view reaches Liberec, the Ještěd ridge (Ještědský hřbet), the Jizera Mountains, the Lusatian Mountains, the Ralská pahorkatina hills near Ralsko and the Bohemian Paradise.[1]

For safety reasons the platform capacity is limited to 25 people, and a counter at the entrance monitors their number. Admission is 50 koruna for adults and 30 koruna for children and seniors. The tower is open daily from 10:00 to 16:30 for now, and operation is temporarily shortened because of the earlier dusk after the clock change. According to the park's event manager, a QR code for buying tickets online is to be added at the entrance.[1]

The Obří sud hotel was opened on Javorník in 1899, and in 1924 the wooden Blaschka Tower was added to it; it was pulled down after the Second World War. The hotel was destroyed by a fire in 1974 and returned to the summit in 2011.[1]
