Ralsko is a town in the Česká Lípa area. Within its territory lies the local part of Kuřívody, with a brownfield site on which a private investor wants to build a data centre for artificial intelligence.[1][2]

Planned data centre

The company Ralsko AI Campus submitted an application for an environmental impact assessment for a plan to build six data blocks on a plot of roughly 6.5 hectares in Kuřívody. The project was to have a reserved power input from the grid of 86 megawatts, which corresponds to the consumption of a city the size of Liberec or Ústí nad Labem.[1][2]

The data centre buildings themselves were to cover almost 1.6 hectares and be almost 15 metres high. For the case of a power outage, the application listed 48 backup diesel generators with a total output of 115.3 megawatts and tanks for approximately 245 tonnes of diesel.[1][2]

Position of the town and the region

The Liberec Region had reservations about the plan and required a more detailed assessment, the so-called large EIA. The town of Ralsko itself also raised objections.[1][2]

The mayor of Ralsko, Miloslav Tůma (ANO), said that the town has no detailed information about the plan because the investor did not present it to residents.[1][2]

In October 2026 the private investor withdrew the application for the environmental impact assessment. The company’s managing director, Petr Šebeček, told Czech Radio Liberec that they plan to subject the project to further analysis so that they can evaluate how to proceed.[1][2]
