Lipník nad Bečvou is a town in the Přerov area.[1] It hosts a Czech army training ground where unmanned systems and defence against them were tested at the end of September 2026 during the Drone Shield 2026 exercise.[1] More than 70 companies from 17 countries took part in the third edition of the exercise, and part of the tests also took place in the Březina military training area near Vyškov. [1]
According to the Úřad vlády České republiky, the later Czechoslovak politician Klement Gottwald worked here as a joiner's labourer in 1914–1915.[2]
At the Lipník training ground the army, together with experts from industry and research, verified more than thirty ground robotic systems. [3] The tests also included verification of autonomous functions, which according to the army are meant to reduce the number of activities performed manually by the operator. [3] Almost thirty organisations brought their systems to the training ground. [3]
An election rally of the ANO movement, at which Prime Minister Andrej Babiš spoke, was held in Lipník nad Bečvou. [4]
The exercise was also observed by observers from the armies of NATO member states, for example Slovakia, Latvia and the United States. [1]
Through the exercise the army wants to gain an overview of the technologies available on the market and to use the results in future purchases. [1]
