The Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic is a security corps whose director general is Petr Ošlejšek [1]. On 29 September 2026 he appeared in Prague at a Ministry of the Interior press conference on the 2027 budget alongside Minister of the Interior Lubomír Metnar (ANO), the Interior Ministry’s chief director of the economy and operations section Eduard Šuster, and the deputy police president for economy Jaromír Bischof [1].

Planned increase in pay and posts

After talks with trade unionists, Metnar announced that the pay of firefighters, police officers, customs officers and prison service members is to rise each year in 2027 to 2029 by 2,600 to 2,900 crowns a month [1]. According to the plan, the tariff component of pay is to rise by 1,300 crowns a year and the stabilisation supplement by the same amount, with the remaining 300 crowns going to above-tariff components of pay, such as stand-by duty or overtime [1]. The Ministry of the Interior aims for the starting pay of firefighters after completing professional training to be 50,000 crowns at the start of 2029 and for the average pay of firefighters to exceed 65,000 crowns a month [3]. Metnar said that about a hundred posts should gradually be added for firefighters and that funds for volunteer firefighters should also rise by 50 million crowns [3]. According to the minister, the government is also counting on an increase in funds for cybersecurity by 240 million crowns [3].

Position of the trade unions

The chairman of the Unie bezpečnostních složek, Aleš Lehký, said that the unions will ask for a meeting with Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and Finance Minister Alena Schillerová, because they demand that the money for the planned pay rise go only into tariffs [1]. According to its own statement, the Unie bezpečnostních složek demands an increase in basic tariffs by ten percent [1]. According to its chairman Tomáš Machovič, the Nezávislý odborový svaz Policie ČR agrees with keeping to the medium-term plan for raising pay but demands an increase in service income from 2027 by ten percent in all tariff classes and grades, without relying mainly on the non-entitlement component of pay [1].
