On 29 September 2026, shortly before 4 p.m., a bus carrying around fifty passengers caught fire in Lutonina in the Zlín area. All of them left the vehicle before the firefighters arrived and no one was injured[1][2][3][4]. According to its spokeswoman, the ambulance service treated two people in connection with the fire who suffered shock. [2]

Firefighters' response

Five firefighting units were gradually dispatched to the scene. The operation was complicated by high-voltage lines under which the burning bus stood, so the firefighters first had to arrange for the power to be switched off. To extinguish the fire they used four water jets and foam[1][2][4][5].

The fire was contained in less than an hour after it was reported. Traffic on the road was stopped in both directions during the operation; as soon as the situation allowed, the firefighters reopened it with at least one lane[1][4][5].

Cause

The cause of the fire and the amount of damage are being determined by a firefighters' investigator. Lucie Javoříková, spokeswoman for the firefighters of the Zlín Region, said that the passengers managed to leave the bus before the units arrived[3][4].
