Physician and former member of parliament Miroslav Čerbák died on 18 October 2026 in Dolní Řasnice in the Frýdlantsko area, aged 90. His death was reported in Českolipský deník by a friend, the head physician of the children's ward at the hospital in Česká Lípa. Čerbák was born in Brno.[1][2]
Public career
Čerbák became known to the wider public after the Velvet Revolution. As a member of the Civic Democratic Alliance he sat in the Czech National Council in 1992 and was a member of parliament from 1992 to 1996. During the same period he was vice-president of the Czech Medical Chamber. From 1996 he was deputy minister of health under Minister Jan Stráský (ODS).[1][2]
Because of this post he became coordinator of the medical council that cared for the ailing President Václav Havel. According to Novinky, he was present in 1998, for example, when Havel was operated on in Innsbruck by the local surgeon Ernst Bodner.[1][2]
Later life
After leaving the ministry he returned to the hospital in Česká Lípa, where his wife also worked for many years as a head physician. At this hospital he met the actor Vlastimil Brodský, who had a country cottage in the Česká Lípa area, and a friendship developed between the actor and the Čerbák couple. In retirement Čerbák took up photography, and several exhibitions grew out of his pictures.[1][2]
The funeral farewell is to take place on Saturday 31 October 2026 at 3 p.m. in the church in Ludvíkov pod Smrkem in the Frýdlantsko area.[1][2]
