Actor Miloslav Kopečný died on 7 October 2026 in Prague at the age of 82. His death was announced by the Arts and Theatre Institute, based on information from his wife.
He was born in Třebíč and graduated from the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno in 1965. He performed at the Východočeské divadlo in Pardubice, until 1983 at the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec, and then at the Činoherní studio in Ústí nad Labem. There, according to the Arts and Theatre Institute, he played his best-known role, the Marquis de Sade in the 1988 production of Marat–Sade. From 1993 he performed at the Divadlo pod Palmovkou, where he worked until 2014. On the stage of the Spolek Kašpar he created, among others, the physicist Bohr in Copenhagen and the dresser Norman in The Dresser. He also guest-starred at the National Theatre and performed at the Summer Shakespeare Festival. According to the Arts and Theatre Institute, he studied nearly 190 stage roles.
In film he mostly played supporting roles. He is best known as the black-market money changer Slepejš in the film Bony a klid from the late 1980s, a role he repeated in the 2014 sequel. He also appeared in the films Čas sluhů and Kousek nebe and, most recently, in Vlny in 2024. He also acted in television series, for example Život na zámku, Dobrodružství kriminalistiky and Černí andělé. In 2025 he received the Master Prix award for lifetime artistic contribution, presented by the Nadace Život umělce foundation.
