The Prague 8 municipal district has completed a bronze replica of the Prameník sculpture by Vladimír Kýn, stolen in 2007; it will return to the Ďáblice housing estate only after the necessary pipework is built.

The Prague 8 municipal district had a bronze replica cast of the sculpture Prameník (The Spring) by the sculptor Vladimír Kýn, which once stood in a park in Famfulíkova Street on the Ďáblice housing estate. The original was gradually dismantled and stolen in 2007.[1][2]
The replica was made from surviving photographs and a reduced plaster model created by Kýn. The sculpture was modelled by the sculptor Jaromíra Němcová and cast by the HVH art foundry. According to Pražský deník, the author’s son Zdeněk Lukeš, an architectural historian, also took part in the production, and the town hall cooperated with Prague City Hall and the Prague City Gallery.[1][2]
The work is a water feature, so it will return to the housing estate only after the necessary infrastructure is built. According to Pražský deník, this will take at least a year, possibly two. For the time being, according to the same source, it is on display in the foyer of the Kulturní dům Ládví.[1][2]
The Prague city councillor for culture, Tomáš Slabihoudek (TOP 09), said that he took on the return of Prameník as a task because he spent his youth on the housing estate. The district councillor Jana Solomonová (ANO) said that caring for art in public space makes sense. According to the town hall, this is part of a broader effort to restore works of art on the Ďáblice housing estate.[1]
Origin of the sculpture
The design of Prameník dates from 1967. Kýn created it with Antonín Drábek and the architect Jan Růžička originally for the housing estate in Prosek, where, according to Pražský deník, it was not used. It was installed on the Ďáblice housing estate later.[2]
