In Zlín, on the evening of 25 October 2026, representatives of all the groupings that could form a coalition after the local elections without the winning ANO movement met together for the first time. The talks stalled over the distribution of seats on the city council. The coalition would have 29 votes in the 41-member city assembly.[1][2]
Dispute over council seats
STAN and Zlín 21 offered the three-party bloc made up of ODS, Společně pro Zlín and Zlín Srdcem a Piráti four of the eleven seats on the city council. The bloc demands five. According to STAN's lead candidate Věra Stojar, the offer was fair. Aleš Dufek (KDU-ČSL) said on behalf of the bloc that its members had been presented with a fait accompli, and described that they had been willing to allow the two former opposition parties to have a six-to-five majority on the council and the post of mayor. According to him, only joint negotiation by the bloc is possible.[1][2]
The participants agreed that the mayor will be a representative of STAN or Zlín 21. The leader of Zlín 21, Čestmír Vančura, said he wants to negotiate with the individual members of the bloc, but the bloc refused. According to him, KDU-ČSL at least will make an offer. According to Czech Television, no further meeting was scheduled; the inaugural session of the city assembly is set for 5 November 2026.[1][2]
Election result

ANO, whose leader Jiří Korec led the city for two terms, remained outside the coalition negotiations. In the outgoing term the city was governed by a coalition of ANO, ODS, KDU-ČSL and the Czech Pirate Party.[1][2]
