The victorious Starostové pro Liberecký kraj (SLK), the movement Lepší Liberec and the grouping Liberec otevřený lidem (LOL), together with the Czech Pirate Party, have agreed on the leadership of Liberec for the new term. The leader of SLK, Lukáš Hájek, is to become mayor. He informed journalists of this on 2 November 2026 [1][2].

Coalition

Four of the eleven candidate lists entered the new Liberec council. The three-party coalition holds a majority of 31 votes in the 39-member council. The ANO 2011 movement, with eight seats, which has led the city in the last three terms, will go into opposition [1][2].

City council

As before, the executive council will have eleven members: the mayor, eight full-time deputy mayors and two part-time councillors. Eight paid deputy mayors is a record number in Liberec. In the past Liberec had four to six paid deputy mayors and had eight only in the last term, when two of them were not full-time. Hájek said that the total number does not change and that the difference lies in the move to full-time posts, because the workload is growing and the agendas are divided precisely [1][3].

Five posts went to Starostové pro Liberecký kraj, four to Lepší Liberec and two to the coalition Liberec otevřený lidem and the Pirates [3][4]. According to the published proposal they are filled as follows:

  • SLK: Lukáš Hájek (mayor), the current mayor Jaroslav Zámečník (economy), Jiří Janďourek (architecture and urban planning), David Václavík (education, culture and tourism) and the part-time councillor Tereza Pokorná [3][4];
  • Lepší Liberec: Martina Teplá (statutory deputy mayor, social affairs and housing), Jiří Mejsnar (technical administration and energy), Lukáš Lehký (strategic development and subsidies) and the part-time councillor Lukáš Pohanka [3][4];
  • Liberec otevřený lidem and the Pirates: Zuzana Kocumová (sport and property management) and Jan Hruška (environment and urban transport) [3][4].

According to Hruška, Kocumová will face the reopening of the reconstructed swimming pool right at the start of the term; Hruška named a large waste tender and electromobility in urban transport as his tasks [3].

Next steps

The coalition cannot yet take over the leadership of the city, because a court decision is awaited on a challenge to the elections filed by the former deputy mayor Adam Lenert (ANO 2011). The constituent council meeting can take place only after it. Hájek said that for now he expects an approximate date of 19 November 2026 [4].
