Blesk Ordinace in Ostrava was a one-day public health event organised by the University Hospital Ostrava in Masaryk Square in the centre of Ostrava as part of the nationwide Blesk Ordinace project. For one afternoon the square became a place where passers-by could have their health checked without an appointment.[1]*

Course of the event

The hospital prepared thirteen stations for the public focused on prevention and early detection of disease. Visitors could have their blood sugar level and blood pressure measured and undergo examinations of eyesight and intraocular pressure, heart, lungs or moles. There was also interest in blood group determination, information on stroke prevention, and advice on a healthy lifestyle and on staying healthy into old age.[1]

Results

During the afternoon, health workers carried out more than 1,500 examinations and consultations.[1]
