Komorní scéna Aréna in Ostrava staged on 1 November 2026 the premiere of Sexual Perversity in Chicago, which director Ivan Krejčí adapted from the 1974 play by David Mamet. Dramaturgy was handled by Lukáš Cenker, who replaced Tomáš Vůjtek in that role. The text is based on a translation by Ondřej Sokol, adapted for the purposes of the production.[1]

Place in the season

The premiere opened the theatre season titled Rok mocných a nemocných (Year of the Powerful and the Ill), which according to Ostravan.cz was linked with expectations tied to the ongoing transformation of the company and of the theatre's creative team.[1]

Cast and stage design

Maximilián Dolanský appears in the production as Bernie, his first role on the Ostrava stage. The character of Dan is played by Valentýn Pokorný, also a new member of the company. Viktorie Vítová guest-stars as Deborah, and Zuzana Truplová plays Joan.[1] The theatre space was converted for the production into the form of a cinema auditorium, with the scenes, according to the description, accompanied by pop songs of the period.[1]

Theme of the play

The story follows two young men and their relationships with women, which are disrupted when a new partner enters the life of one of them. The 1974 play is, according to the Ostravan.cz review, associated with the themes of loneliness and the search for identity, which the reviewer links to today's alienation through social media.[1]
