On 10 October 2026, a woman was attacked while jogging in Plzeň. According to police spokeswoman Dagmar Mifková, police received a report of a woman being attacked by an unknown assailant who had been riding a bicycle behind her.[1][2] The attacker was a man. [1] Several police patrols were dispatched to the scene and are searching for the perpetrator.[1][2]

The attacker stabbed the woman in the back with a knife. Luboš Bouček, spokesman for the regional emergency medical service, said that after treating the stab wound, paramedics transported her to a medical facility conscious and in stable condition.[1][2]

According to Novinky.cz, the incident occurred near Bolevecký rybník, an area used for recreation that is crossed by footpaths and cycling trails.[1]

Minor charged

On 13 October 2026, police announced that, in connection with the attack on the woman near Velký Bolevecký rybník, a seventeen-year-old youth had been charged with the offense of attempted murder. Police spokeswoman Pavla Burešová stated that, according to police, he had chosen the victim completely at random. She did not disclose the motive or any further details.[3][4][5]

Dozens of police officers searched for the man suspected of the attack, who had fled the scene by bicycle, on Saturday; a tactical unit detained him on Sunday, 11 October 2026.[3][4] According to the spokeswoman, police had been working on the theory that the victim had no connection to the attacker and was simply a random victim, which was later confirmed. The spokeswoman also denied reports circulating publicly that the attacker was a foreigner.[4][5] According to police, he had arrived in Plzeň by train with a bicycle, which he used to travel around the city, and left the same way.[4][5]

Police originally investigated the case as attempted grievous bodily harm and disorderly conduct, and later reclassified it as attempted murder.[3][5] According to Novinky.cz, the state prosecutor will file a motion to remand the suspect in custody.[5] According to iDNES.cz, the minor faces up to ten years in prison without suspension for attempted murder. Regional criminal investigators continue to work on the case; given the severity of the act, the victim, and the age of the accused, police will not be providing further information for the time being.[4]
