A pedunculate oak from the castle avenue in Skalička in the Přerov area won the Tree of the Quarter-Century title in a poll held by Nadace Partnerství. The foundation announced the winner on 20 October 2026 at the observatory in Brno during Tree Day. The tree received 5,727 votes.[1][2]
The poll
The foundation launched the poll on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Tree of the Year competition. Thirteen winning trees from earlier years competed for the title, among them four oaks, lindens, an apple tree, a pear tree, two pines, a yew, an ash and a beech. Public voting lasted until 5 October, and at the end of September five trees advanced to the super-final: the Skalička oak, the Opatovice pine from Velké Opatovice, the Chudobín pine from the Vysočina Region, the apple tree at the Lidman family in Machov and Oldřich's Oak from the Ústí nad Labem Region. Voting in the final was secret.[1][2]
Ranking
The Opatovice pine from the South Moravian Region finished second with 5,500 votes, and the Chudobín pine third with 4,800 votes.[1][2]
The oak in Skalička
The Skalička oak is about 400 years old and has a trunk circumference of 493 centimetres. It grows in the castle avenue, which consists of 22 lindens and ten oaks and which was created gradually from 1626. The trees originally lined the dams of two ponds. The municipal office and pupils of the local primary school nominated the oak for the poll. The winning tree is to receive expert care.[1][2]
