Záhorovice is a municipality through which a railway line with three level crossings runs. According to deputy mayor Jiří Milička, all three have light signals and barriers, and residents use them on their way to their land and properties.[1]
Railway level crossings
Správa železnic plans electrification and faster services on the section near the municipality. According to an analysis that has been prepared, two of the three crossings could be closed; for one no replacement would be needed, for the other a detour road would have to be built. The deputy mayor said that for now it is only an analysis and that the municipality disagrees with any closure.[1]
The neighbouring municipalities on both sides of the line lie roughly two kilometres from Záhorovice, so, according to Milička, no significant speed-up would be achieved.[1]
Referendum 2026
Two local referendums were held in parallel with the municipal elections in October 2026. One was initiated by a local group and concerned keeping one of the crossings; the other was called by the council and concerned the remaining two. In them, residents voted to keep all three crossings.[1][2]
