Tomáš Fiala is a senator for Senate district no. 12 Strakonice and director of the hospital in Strakonice.[1][2] He was born on 25 March 1957 in Strakonice and studied paediatrics at the 2nd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague. [7]

He first ran for the Senate in 2020 as an independent for ODS. In early 2026 he moved to the Naše Česko movement, which the head of the South Bohemian Region, Martin Kuba, founded in 2025 after leaving ODS.[1][3] On joining, Fiala said that a senator has three main tasks: to review laws and, where needed, amend them or return them to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, to protect democracy and to support his region.[1]

In October 2026 he defended his seat as a Naše Česko candidate already in the first round.[1][3][4][5] Martin Kuba described Fiala's candidacy as important for the new movement. [7] Fiala announced that he will step down as head of the Strakonice hospital, which he has run for 24 years, in December 2026 and wants to devote himself fully to his work in the Senate from 2027. [6] From 2012 to 2016 he was deputy chairman of the Asociace českých a moravských nemocnic. [7] Under his leadership the hospital won the title Nemocnice roku České republiky four times. [7] He began working at the Strakonice hospital in 1983 as a paediatrician, was deputy director from 1997 and has been its director since 2003. [7] According to iDNES.cz, with more than three quarters of the polling districts counted, he had over 58 percent of the votes, Miroslav Ušatý (Svobodní) almost 23 percent and Jana Hrdinová (KDU-ČSL) almost 20 percent.[2]

According to the Czech News Agency's election projection, about 44.12 percent of voters took part in the district, and three candidates competed for the seat. [7]
