Správa železnic has announced a tender for the environmental impact assessment (EIA) documentation and the building-permit design of the new Brno main station and Heršpice station. Design firms may submit bids until 9 December 2026, and the maximum permitted price is CZK 711 million. Správa železnic published the contract on its website on 5 October 2026. [1][2]

Background

The new main station in a relocated position is to be the central element of the reconstruction of the Brno railway hub, which according to the latest estimates costs more than CZK 70 billion. The redesigned hub is intended to raise the capacity of the station and the lines significantly and to allow the planned high-speed lines to connect. [1][2]

Schedule

Správa železnic originally wanted to announce these contracts in autumn 2025 and later considered June 2026. On its website it now gives the start of construction of the new station as after 2032, with no completion date filled in; earlier, a start of reconstruction in 2028 was mentioned. For another construction in the hub, the dates 2032 to 2041 are given, which means completion six years later than the originally expected year 2035. [1][2]

Správa železnic announced the first design contract for the reconstruction of the hub, covering the lines and the stop in Černovice, in summer 2025. It postponed further assignments because of the uncertain budget of the Státní fond dopravní infrastruktury, which the new government proposed at the end of January 2026 and later approved. The contract for the reconstruction of the station and the line in Židenice was announced for autumn by Správa železnic spokesman David Kabele in May 2026; it has not been announced yet. [1]
