Strahov is a Prague locality with university dormitories, the Strahov Stadium, a sports complex, and a bus turning loop at the intersection of Vaníčkova and Turistická streets.[1][2]
Transport
Buses run to Strahov; line 176 from Karlova Street is to be replaced by a new trolleybus line completed in June 2026. Line 191, whose electrification is planned for the future, also passes through the Strahov terminal.[1]
Tram line from Malovanka to Strahov
The Prague Public Transit Company began construction of a 1.3-kilometer-long tram line from Malovanka to Strahov in October 2026 with a ceremonial foundation stone laying. The European Union is financing 85 percent of the project, through the Transport Programme 2021–2027.[1][2] Trams are expected to start running there in 2028.[2]
The line will run from Bělohorská Street along the entire length of Vaníčkova Street to the university dormitories and the bus turning loop, where it will end at the Stadion Strahov loop. Three pairs of stops will be created: Malovanka, shared with the existing line to Bílá Hora, then Koleje Strahov and Stadion Strahov, where both tram and trolleybus lines will stop. The project also includes the reconstruction of Bělohorská Street between its intersections with Myslbekova and Vaníčkova streets, as well as the reconstruction and widening of Vaníčkova Street.[1][2]
The construction will be carried out by the Společnost TT Malovanka consortium, which won the tender with a bid of 824 million koruna excluding VAT, almost a fifth below the expected 1.02 billion. The contract could only be signed after a ruling by the Úřad pro ochranu hospodářské soutěže, which reviewed the tender following a complaint from another company and found no wrongdoing.[1][2] Construction is expected to take 18 months from the handover of the site; the transit company originally planned to start in spring 2026 and put the line into operation in autumn 2027.[1]
According to the transit company, the line is meant to replace bus transport from Strahov to Dejvická metro station with a higher-capacity, locally zero-emission tram, and to reduce the number of buses in the overloaded area around Vítězné náměstí.[1][2]
