ODS chairman Martin Kupka cast his vote in the municipal elections on 9 October 2026 in Líbeznice near Prague, where he is a councillor and was formerly mayor. He told journalists that the party aims to defend five seats in the Senate and to succeed in all the large cities as well as in many towns and villages where ODS governs [1][2].

Statement on the elections

Kupka welcomed that President Petr Pavel returned from his holiday in Morocco and voted in Černouček, calling it a right and strong gesture. In his view the president thereby sent people a message to come and vote. According to Kupka, municipal elections decide the shape of towns and villages, for example parking or housing construction. In his view the Senate is meant to balance the government majority, which also controls the Chamber of Deputies. He estimated turnout at under 50 percent [1][2].

Líbeznice

In Líbeznice, which has over 3,000 inhabitants, ODS won almost 70 percent of the votes and 11 of 15 seats in the 2022 municipal elections, and SNK pro Líbeznice won four seats. Kupka led the municipality as mayor from 2010 and resigned the post at the end of 2021, when he was Minister of Transport. In 2026 he stands for ODS; besides it, the association Pro naše Líbeznice also sought votes [1][2].
