Obec architektů presented Prague's successful candidacy for the World Capital of Architecture title at a press conference held on 23 October 2026 in the residence of the Mayor of Prague. The title is awarded by UNESCO and the International Union of Architects (UIA). Prague will hold it from 2029 to 2032 and is to host the UIA World Congress of Architects, together with the organisation's general assembly, in 2032.

The four-year period is to include presentations of Czech architecture, international cooperation, professional meetings, education and a programme for the public, covering topics such as affordable housing, transport, public space and the protection of cultural heritage. The city intends to involve the professional community, schools, cultural institutions, city districts and residents in the preparations. Obec architektů takes part in the preparations as a professional partner of Prague City Hall.

Deputy Mayor Petr Hlaváček said: “This title is not only a recognition of the development so far, but also a confirmation of its place on the map of world architecture.” The chairman of Obec architektů, Oleg Haman, said that the title is meant to be a living programme that will bring together City Hall, architects, professional institutions, schools, the cultural scene and the public.
