After the 2026 municipal elections, representatives of the parties met in Brno on 10 October for the first talks on the leadership of the city. According to iDNES.cz, the elections were won by the coalition of the Christian Democrats and Mayors; according to the Czech News Agency, by the coalition of KDU-ČSL and STAN.[1][2] The following groupings are to negotiate on the coalition at city hall: the winning coalition of the Christian Democrats and the STAN movement, the coalition of ODS, TOP 09 and independents, Zelené Brno, the Czech Pirate Party and the Za Lužánky movement.[1]

The leader of the winning coalition, Jakub Hruška, told journalists after the meeting that the parties had decided to proceed together and to look for programme agreement. According to him, he will be mayor of Brno as leader of the winning party, and the composition of the city council is to respect the election result, that is, the mathematical recalculation. Further talks were to continue on Sunday, 11 October.[1]

According to an iDNES.cz commentary, the Christian Democrats are in the position that ODS held four years earlier and can choose their partners. They could also form a broader coalition with the Greens, the Pirates and possibly the Za Lužánky grouping, which corresponds to the pre-election statements of these groupings and to the slogan "Change is closer", repeated by representatives of the Christian Democrats and Mayors.[2] Hruška said that he wants to negotiate with all democratic parties that enter the city assembly, not with the parties of the government.[2]

According to iDNES.cz, shortly before the end of the count the Za Lužánky movement, founded by football fans with the aim of bringing football back to the Brno stadium at Lužánky, had 5.2 percent of the vote under its leader Jana Janulíková. According to the daily, the Greens and the Pirates also returned to the city assembly, while SPD was heading for under four percent and is not to have a councillor; four years earlier it had almost ten percent.[3] Hruška would become the first Christian Democrat mayor of Brno.[3]
