Police are examining comments that appeared on social media under a post by the MP and chairman of the PRO party Jindřich Rajchl, elected to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic for the SPD. In the post, Rajchl published a photograph of Bára Stárek, founder of the association Díky, že můžem, and described her as the organiser of student protests that in his words were "artificially induced".[1]
Content of the post and the comments
According to the website iROZHLAS, thousands of comments gathered under Rajchl's post, among them calls for violence against Stárek.[1] One commenter wrote that "the time of the end of the parasites will come for them", another user asked why Stárek was still "running free", and a further one insulted her by comparing her to poultry.[1] In his post Rajchl also linked Stárek with the Aspen Institute and the American businessman George Soros, who he claimed had trained her and installed her in the Czech Republic, without presenting evidence for this claim.[1] Rajchl described the association Díky, že můžem, which organises an annual programme for the 17 November anniversary on Národní in Prague, as a "political non-profit".[1]
Police examination
Police spokesperson Jakub Vinčálek told the editors of Forum24 that police will determine whether or not the authors of the comments committed any unlawful conduct.[1]
Response of the association
Spokesperson of the association Díky, že můžem Pavla Umlaufová said the association's lawyers are considering further steps.[1] In her words, the association wants to "clearly distance itself from labels about artificially induced protests", which according to her are starting to spread in public space.[1] Rajchl and other SPD representatives did not respond to questions from the editors of Forum24.[1]
