Ondřej Šimetka is a senator for ODS for the Ostrava-město district.
Ondřej Šimetka is a senator for ODS in district 72 Ostrava-město. According to Radiožurnál, he is a physician and university lecturer. [3] Novinky.cz describes him as a gynaecologist. [4] In the 2026 Senate elections he defended his seat and advanced to the second round, in which he faced Lucie Baránková Vilamová (ANO).[1][2] Baránková Vilamová is the mayor of Ostrava-Poruba and a deputy mayor. The second round of the Senate elections will take place on 16 and 17 October 2026. [3] In the first round he won 46.74 percent of the vote and Baránková Vilamová 30.61 percent, with turnout of 39.52 percent and seven candidates standing. [1]
After the first round Šimetka told the Czech News Agency that the second round starts from zero and that he wants to mobilise all voters. [2] Šimetka said he is the joint candidate of KDU-ČSL, ODS, STAN, the Czech Pirate Party, TOP 09 and the Greens. Before the second round he plans a contact campaign and activity on social media. [2]
In 2020 he won in this district in the second round with 67.89 percent of the vote ahead of Zdeněk Jiříček (ANO). [4]
