Miroslav Kalousek is a former finance minister and former chairman of TOP 09.

On 4 October 2026 he reacted on X to the fact that President Petr Pavel would not vote in the municipal elections because of a trip abroad. He wrote that there was still time to put the elections before a “private pastime”. According to Kalousek, he himself went to every election after 1990 in which he could take part. As a politician, he said, he could not imagine being able to afford not to vote. Kalousek also wrote on X that everyone makes a mistake, but that a person should correct it if possible. [1] He added that if the president did not change his plans, his admission of a mistake would be merely formal and his real priorities would be clear. [1] After President Pavel returned from holiday to vote on 9 October 2026, Kalousek wrote on X that he was glad responsibility had prevailed. [2] In reply to a user of X he said that for a citizen voting is a right, not a duty, whereas a politician should call on citizens to take part. [1]
