The Capital City of Prague, in cooperation with the Czech Red Cross regional branch Prague 1, launched the project Pražský krizový dobrovolník (Prague Crisis Volunteer). According to Prague City Hall spokesman Vít Hofman, a unified network of prepared volunteers is to be created, who can be engaged to help in emergencies and thus support the work of the professional services. As examples of such situations the sources give extreme weather, technical accidents and an outage of basic services.
Registration of and communication with volunteers will run through the digital platform Sinch, which is to allow quick contact and coordination according to the needs of crisis management. Those interested can register online. Registered volunteers are to receive a newsletter with practical tips and information and an offer of selected courses focused on crisis preparedness and resilience.
Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda (ODS) said that the project is meant to offer people knowledge, support and an opportunity to get involved, because a safe city is also made up of residents able to protect one another. The head of City Hall's security department, Markéta Štalmachová, described as important not only the timely activation of volunteers but also their continuous preparation and clear coordination.
