On 8 October 2026, Petr Moravec, director of the Krkonoše National Park Administration, apologised to the directors of the other national parks for not informing them in advance of the founding of the association Asociace národních parků ČR.
At the end of September 2026, a registered association named Asociace národních parků ČR was established. Its chairman became Petr Moravec, director of the Krkonoše National Park Administration. The association is based in Vrchlabí, at the address of the park administration. According to the commercial register entry, its purpose is to support, develop and protect the natural and cultural heritage in national parks and to support cooperation among bodies active in nature conservation.
An organisation of the same name already existed. It is an informal grouping of the administrations of four Czech national parks, formed in 2024 as a platform for cooperation and exchange of experience. Its representatives last met on Tuesday 6 October 2026 and elected Pavel Müller, director of the Podyjí National Park Administration, as chairman. He replaced Robin Böhnisch, the former director of the Krkonoše National Park Administration, whom Minister of the Environment Igor Červený (Motoristé) dismissed in March. Moravec has headed the administration since June.
According to their own statements, the directors of the other parks learned of the association's founding only on Tuesday 6 October. Pavel Hubený, director of Šumava National Park, said the founding surprised him and that Moravec had not mentioned it even at a meeting of directors. Petr Kříž, director of the Bohemian Switzerland National Park Administration, and Müller both said they are not involved in the association. Hubený said the original association will approach the new one with a request for an explanation and for a change of name.
On 8 October 2026, at the opening of an exhibition in the lower station of the cable car in Pec pod Sněžkou, Moravec apologised to his colleagues that they had not learned of the step from him. He said that founding the new association was an idea shared with the Ministry of the Environment, and he rejected that it was an order from above. In his words, it is meant to be a service organisation with legal personality, which the original association lacks, and the two organisations are not supposed to operate side by side. He wants to approach the directors of the other parks and discuss the next steps with them, including a possible merger of the two associations.
