The Karlovarské inovační centrum (KIC) is a multi-purpose complex of buildings next to the regional office in Karlovy Vary. The complex is to offer premises for start-ups, a place for cooperation between companies and seats for regional or private institutions [1].

Project and costs

The project includes the construction of a science and technology park and an information and education centre. The science and technology park is to contain office space, laboratories and a conference hall [1][2]. The construction, worth 635 million crowns, is being carried out by the company Geosan Group [1]. Eighty-five percent of the costs are covered by a subsidy from the Just Transition programme, and the rest is paid from its budget by the Karlovy Vary Region [1][2]. Deputy Governor Martin Hurajčík (ANO) said that the subsidy is also conditional on deadlines for using the new buildings [1].

State of construction and tenants

As of 6 October 2026 the main construction work was finished, while work continued on the interiors of the buildings and their surroundings, the installation of technical distribution systems, plastering and the completion of paved areas, including the laying of interlocking paving in the car park [1][2]. As of that date the Karlovy Vary Region began concluding lease agreements with the first eight applicants for offices in the centre [1]. According to Hurajčík, the regional leadership had a document prepared that recommends the level of rents so that they correspond to usual prices [1]. The centre should be finished and equipped “in a few months”, Hurajčík said [1]. If the schedule is kept, completion of the KIC is expected at the end of 2026 [1][2].
