Greenpeace ČR is an environmental organisation operating in Czechia. It runs a climate and energy campaign and, through press releases and public actions, comments on government policy in the area of nature protection [1].
The action near Kačerov in Prague
On the morning of 30 September 2026, activists of the organisation covered an election billboard of the ANO movement near Kačerov in Prague, featuring the party's candidate for mayor of Prague Jan Hušbauer [1][3]. In its place they put a banner showing Foreign Minister and Motorists chairman Petr Macinka, MP Filip Turek and Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, with the slogan "The Motorists harm nature, don't be their puppet" [1]. According to the organisation, it wanted to tell Prime Minister Babiš to ensure expert leadership of the Ministry of the Environment, which, in its view, under the Motorists' leadership is losing the funds needed to protect nature [1].
Statements by the organisation
Jaroslav Charvát Bican, head of the energy campaign at Greenpeace ČR, said that the organisation had communicated with the prime minister before citizens began sending him e-mails, and that the ministry has been avoiding answers to its repeatedly asked questions "ever since the Motorists took over" [1][2]. Miriam Macurová, head of the climate campaign, said that Babiš entrusted the ministry to a party that, according to the organisation, made no secret of not caring about environmental protection, and that the ministry should be led by people with professional expertise [1][2]. According to the organisation, the Motorists at the ministry are abolishing separate climate protection sections, dismissing experts and replacing them with people of dubious qualifications, or cutting the office's budget [2][3]. Macurová added that Babiš promised to keep an eye on the Motorists at the start of his term, but, she said, he is now merely looking on and does not mind that at the ministry he acts as their "puppet" [2][3].
Reactions of other parties
Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, through Martin Vodička, head of the communications department of the Government Office, rejected the way in which the organisation had started communication, and rejected the covering of a paid-for billboard and the sending of messages to his e-mail address [1][2][3]. Motorists chairman and Foreign Minister Petr Macinka, through party spokesman Lukáš Koutník, called the organisation "green jihadists" who, in his words, respect neither laws nor rules [1][2][3]. Jan Hušbauer, whose billboard was covered, said that the action was not aimed at the government but at his billboard, and compared the organisation to practices that, in his words, threaten in the event of a possible government of "the Greens with Praha Sobě" [1][2][3].
