The harvest of the Kudlovská přehrada reservoir in Zlín took place on Saturday 31 October 2026, after Povodí Moravy had been draining the reservoir completely since Monday 26 October to repair a damaged side spillway. It was the first complete draining of the reservoir since the 1930s.[1]

Discovery of ammunition

About a day after draining began, around 27 October, bomb-disposal technicians found a 57-millimetre anti-armour shell in the reservoir. During the harvest itself on 31 October, more Second World War ammunition turned up.[1]

Course of the harvest

The harvest was carried out by members of the Zlín organisation of the Moravian Fishing Union in cooperation with the Napajedla-Spytihněv fishing association. In total they caught three quintals (about 300 kilograms) of fish, including carp, zander, pike, perch, roach and bream. The caught fish were then transported to waters managed by the union's Zlín organisation.[1]

Representatives of the anglers said the harvest was complicated by a non-functioning outlet structure, because of which they had to pump the water out of the reservoir and from the inflow of the Kudlovský potok stream. Another problem, they said, was finds of ammunition in the sediment.[1] Access to the water surface was also made difficult by mud, which in places was more than six metres deep, so the fish first had to be pumped towards the area around the boats and only then caught.[1] The anglers also complained that their work was hindered by visitors who, despite traffic signs and tape, entered the site and obstructed the handling of the fish.[1]

Spillway repair and further plans

Czech Television reported that the repair work on the spillway will cost almost nine million crowns and is to last until the end of July 2027.[1]

The city of Zlín, by contrast, will not use the draining of the reservoir for the planned removal of sediment, because it does not yet have funding secured for this project. The city hall wants to combine the sediment removal with landscaping of the area around the reservoir, which is estimated to cost at least 30 million crowns. The reservoir will therefore probably have to be drained again in the future for the sediment removal.[1]

Chronology

  • — Fishermen completed the fish harvest at the Kudlovská přehrada reservoir in Zlín, which Povodí Moravy fully drained for the first time since the 1930s to repair a damaged spillway, and during the harvest and the earlier draining pyrotechnicians found munitions from World War II.
