From 2027 the Supreme Audit Office (NKÚ) will create sixteen posts to guard its headquarters, fifteen for building protection staff and one for their head. The change to the salary scale that makes this possible was approved by the budget committee of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic.[1]
The posts are linked to a government decision of 2026 that withdrew police protection from the office. NKÚ disagreed with it. Spokeswoman Hana Kadečková said the office will provide protection with its own employees because it judged cooperation with the private sector to be risky and not feasible within the given deadlines. In July 2026 NKÚ pointed out that it works with documents of various levels of classification and that the building also houses the Parlamentní knihovna and the Archiv Poslanecké sněmovny. Interior Minister Lubomír Metnar (ANO) said in July that the proposal is based on a police security analysis, not on a political decision. Under the government resolution, the police are now to ensure the security of the headquarters of the Czech National Bank.[1]
The police have so far guarded the building with 17 officers and one head. NKÚ Vice-President Jan Málek said the new model is based on this staffing and that protection must be continuous. According to the spokeswoman, NKÚ has approached former police officers, is preparing interviews, will publish an advertisement later and is negotiating with the police on the handover of protection.[1]
The draft NKÚ budget for 2027 includes the sixteen posts and increases the volume of funds for salaries by 28 million Czech crowns, but according to the spokeswoman, no money is earmarked for the guard. The need is 14.6 million crowns. According to the spokeswoman, the Ministry of Finance insists on a shift from operating expenditure to salary expenditure within the NKÚ chapter, so the total budget will not rise. The ministry confirmed this and described the step as part of pressure for operating savings in all chapters of the state budget.[1]
