A first secretary of the Jerusalem office of the Czech embassy, which is based in Tel Aviv, died in a road accident in Jerusalem. The death was confirmed to the Czech News Agency by Adam Čörgő, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic; the information was first published by Český rozhlas Radiožurnál.[1][2]

According to Radiožurnál, a vehicle struck the woman in a street after it drove onto the pavement for reasons that remain unclear. The driver probably lost control of the car. Israeli police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.[1][2]

Speaking for the ministry, Čörgő said the ministry had received with sorrow the news of the "tragic death of our excellent colleague and diplomat" and expressed condolences to her family and loved ones. A black flag is to be flown over Czernin Palace, the ministry's seat, as a sign of respect and farewell.[1][2]
