On 4 October 2026 the Road and Motorway Directorate fully reopened a seven-kilometre section of the D11 motorway near Chlumec nad Cidlinou after roughly a month of repairs costing CZK 125 million.
The Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD) has completed the repair of a seven-kilometre section of the D11 motorway near Chlumec nad Cidlinou between kilometres 55 and 62. After repairs lasting about a month, the section was fully reopened on the afternoon of Sunday, 4 October 2026, and all restrictions there ended.[1][2]
Scope of the work
The work was carried out by the company Strabag SIS for CZK 125 million (excluding VAT, according to Ekonomický deník), and the carriageway was replaced in both directions. During the work, traffic ran in one lane in each direction (a 2+2 arrangement) and the speed limit was reduced to 80 kilometres per hour.[1][2]
The builders milled off the original cement-concrete surface and replaced it with an asphalt one. Zdopravy.cz reports that the repair using the blacktopping technology was carried out in four variants and was a pilot project to test different carriageway structures. The slip roads of the Chlumec nad Cidlinou interchange were also repaired, the horizontal road markings were renewed, the telematics were adjusted and the traffic buttons were permanently removed.[1][2]
ŘSD regional spokeswoman Petra Drkulová said that the motorway near Chlumec was built twenty years ago.[2]
Other repairs on the D11
Work continues on another section of the D11. Between Poděbrady and Sadská in the direction of Prague, ŘSD has been repairing fourteen kilometres of motorway since the first half of August for CZK 757 million excluding VAT. It is the largest motorway repair of 2026 in the Czech Republic and should be finished during October; until then the lanes there are narrowed.[1][2]
