Starostové for the Liberec Region (SLK), Lepší Liberec and the grouping Liberec otevřený lidem + Piráti announced on 12 October 2026 an agreement to form a coalition in Liberec after the municipal elections. It would hold 31 votes in the 39-member council. The ANO movement, which had been part of the city hall coalition for twelve years, would thus most likely be left alone in opposition.[1][3]
Election result
Four of the eleven candidate lists succeeded. SLK won 14 seats, Lepší Liberec 11, ANO eight and Liberec otevřený lidem + Piráti six. Voter turnout was 40.64 per cent.[3]
Statements and the previous coalition
SLK leader Lukáš Hájek said that agreement on the programme and the search for a stable majority were key to forming the three-party coalition. He did not want to confirm whether he would become mayor, because the parties were still negotiating the distribution of posts on the council: “If not everything is agreed, nothing is agreed,” he said. The outgoing mayor Jaroslav Zámečník of SLK, who led the city for two terms, did not seek the post again and was second on the candidate list.[2][3]
In the previous term SLK formed a coalition with ANO, the Czech Pirate Party and originally also ODS, which together held 29 of the 39 seats. ODS left the coalition in April 2024 and after these elections has no representation on the council because it did not cross the five per cent threshold.[2][3]
