The victorious Starostové pro Liberecký kraj (SLK), Lepší Liberec and the grouping Liberec otevřený lidem + Piráti (LOL) agreed in Liberec on 12 October 2026 on a coalition after the municipal elections. It would hold 31 votes in the 39-member council. Representatives of the parties announced the agreement at a press conference. The opposition will thus apparently be left with only the ANO movement, which had been part of the city hall coalition for the previous twelve years.[1][2][3]

Election result

Four of the 11 candidate lists succeeded. SLK won 14 seats, Lepší Liberec 11, ANO eight and LOL + Piráti six. Turnout was 40.64 percent of voters.[3]

Statement by SLK

SLK leader Lukáš Hájek said that programme agreement and the search for a stable majority were key to forming the three-party coalition. He did not want to confirm whether he would become mayor, because the parties were still negotiating the distribution of seats in the city council. He said: “If not everything is agreed, nothing is agreed.” The incumbent mayor Jaroslav Zámečník of SLK, who led the city for two electoral terms, did not seek the post again and was second on the Starostové list.[2][3]

Previous coalition

In the previous electoral term SLK formed a coalition with ANO, the Czech Pirate Party and originally also with ODS, which together held 29 of 39 seats. It did not last in this form for the whole term: after a corruption affair linked to the then ODS leader, ODS ended up in opposition in April 2024. After these elections ODS will not sit in the council for the first time since 1994, because it did not cross the five percent threshold.[2][3]
