The group Žijeme pro Karvinou and the ANO movement signed a coalition agreement on 2 November 2026 on running Karviná in the new term after the 2026 municipal elections. The existing cooperation between the two parties thus continues. The mayor is to be Jan Wolf (Žijeme pro Karvinou) again.[1][3]

Distribution of votes

In the 41-member city council, Žijeme pro Karvinou has 30 seats and the coalition could have 37 votes. In the elections, Wolf's group, which ran as an association of SOCDEM and independents, won 63.36 percent of the vote, ANO came second with 15.98 percent, and third was the coalition Srdcem pro Karvinou (STAN, ODS, Czech Pirate Party and TOP 09) with 8.25 percent.[1][2]

In the 11-member city board, the election winner is to have eight representatives and ANO three. Žijeme pro Karvinou is to fill the post of mayor and all posts of deputy mayor.[3]

Jan Wolf

Four years ago Wolf led the candidate list of ČSSD, whose successor party is SOCDEM. In February 2026 he announced his departure from the Social Democrats with the intention of running as a non-party candidate. In March 2026 he was charged in connection with the football corruption affair, in which he is a suspect of bribery; he has long denied guilt. He remained in office as mayor and led the Žijeme pro Karvinou candidate list in the elections.[1][3]

SPD proposal

The SPD movement, which did not get into the council, filed a motion with the Krajský soud v Ostravě to recount the votes in the municipal elections. As of 2 November 2026 the court had not ruled. According to the source, a possible recalculation of seats should not significantly change the coalition's superiority.[3]
