Jan Wolf is the mayor of Karviná and the lead candidate of the Žijeme pro Karvinou group. The group ran in the 2026 municipal elections as an association of SOCDEM and independents and won 63.36 per cent of the vote and 30 of 41 seats on the council. Voter turnout in Karviná was 32.54 per cent.[1][2][3]

The ANO movement won 15.98 per cent of the vote and seven seats, and the Srdcem pro Karvinou coalition, made up of STAN, ODS, the Czech Pirate Party and TOP 09, won 8.25 per cent and four seats. SPD did not enter the council, remaining just below the 5 per cent threshold with 4.99 per cent.[2]

In the previous municipal elections, Wolf led the ČSSD list, which won 23 of 41 seats with 51 per cent of the vote. The city was subsequently run by a coalition with the ANO movement.[1][3] At the beginning of 2026 he announced that he was leaving the Social Democrats and wanted to run as a non-party candidate.[3]

After the elections, Wolf did not speak to journalists and issued a written statement. He thanked the voters and said he saw the result as confirmation of the work of the city leadership so far. In his words, much work still awaits the city, and the leadership has a clear idea of Karviná's further direction. He did not comment on the shape of the future coalition and said he would consider it after the weekend.[2][3]
