On 1 October 2026 the Prague police announced that the traffic accident involving MP Filip Turek (for Motoristé) and the driver of a hospital vehicle, which took place on 13 July 2026 in central Prague, was not a criminal offence. The case was passed to the municipal district Prague 2 to be handled as a possible misdemeanour against the safety and flow of road traffic, on the part of both parties to the accident.[1][2]
The accident and the investigation
Turek's car collided with the hospital vehicle on 13 July 2026 at the intersection near náměstí I. P. Pavlova, specifically on the streets Ječná and Sokolská. According to footage from the scene, the MP was overtaking a queue in a turning lane just before the collision, while the hospital vehicle was using its audible warning signal as it crossed the intersection. Turek's car was the only one to enter the intersection and struck the rear of the hospital vehicle, which was thrown into the air and, in an uncontrolled flight, passed a few metres from a group of pedestrians waiting at a crossing before it came to rest on its roof.[2][4]
Turek was unhurt in the accident; the driver of the hospital vehicle suffered multiple injuries and rescuers took him to a trauma centre.[2] The police investigated the case on suspicion of negligent bodily harm.[4] According to police spokeswoman Eva Kropáčová, neither the investigation nor an expert medical examination confirmed that the elements of a criminal offence were met; the police procedure was supervised by a public prosecutor, who raised no objections.[3]
Reactions of politicians
After the accident Turek announced that he would wait for the conclusions of the investigation and placed at disposal his post of government commissioner for climate policy and the Green Deal, which he had held since January 2026.[1][4] Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) said at the time that Turek would not attend cabinet meetings until responsibility was clarified and that he should leave the post if any fault of his were shown.[1] After the police announcement, Babiš said that the party at fault would be determined only in administrative proceedings and that Turek's earlier statement about not exercising the post until then still applied.[1]
After the results were published, Turek declared that he was ready to keep working for Czechia in line with the mandate he won in the elections and with the programme of Motoristé.[1][2] On a social network he wrote that he expected neither an apology nor regret, because he had gone into politics as a “voice of change”.[1][2] He criticised opposition politicians, green activists and most of the media for, in his view, passing judgments in advance on the day of the accident.[1][4] He also recalled the statement of President Petr Pavel, who said after the accident that he need not feel remorse for having refused to appoint Turek as environment minister; Turek responded that the president is used to “cadre assessments and people's courts”.[1]
Motoristé chairman Petr Macinka said that Turek had been condemned in the media straight after the accident, and expressed doubt that anyone would apologise to him.[1][3]

Misdemeanour proceedings over the accident of MP Filip Turek with a hospital vehicle on 13 July 2026 will be led by the municipal district of Prague 2, to which the police passed the matter, stating that no criminal offence took place and that both parties to the collision could have committed a misdemeanour [5][6].
According to a statement by the MP to the Czech News Agency on 8 October 2026, Turek did not turn to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. As a member of the lower house of parliament, he could have asked that the suspected misdemeanour be handled in disciplinary proceedings by the Chamber's committee for mandates and immunity. Turek told the Czech News Agency that he would not comment on the accident until the authority closes it [5][6].
